Abstract

Unemployment is one of the important problems faced by the youth living in Chennai. It results in the growing interest of youths in entrepreneurship. Youth entrepreneurship largely contributes to economic growth and stability and also helps eradicate unemployment. An entrepreneur is the core of entrepreneurship, as the entire success of the venture depends on him. This research attempts to investigate the variables that significantly impact attitude of youths in Chennai city to become entrepreneurs. It also measures the level of awareness about opportunities and applications involved in entrepreneurship. Further, this study sheds light on highly motivating and inhibiting factors in youths’ perception. An empirical research design was used. The data were collected using an online questionnaire via Google Forms from a sample of 53 young respondents in Chennai city. Descriptive analysis and various statistical tools were applied to the research factors. The study's findings showed that the youth in Chennai city lack a thorough understanding of the opportunities as well as applications of entrepreneurship. It also identified that financial assistance is discovered to be a great difficulty confronted by youths to become entrepreneur. At the same time, the element of independent living is highly motivating for youth, especially women. This paper recommends that the government take various steps to create awareness about the benefits of entrepreneurship. Arranging guest lectures by successful entrepreneurs in educational institutions highly motivates the youth generation to become entrepreneurs.
